5th Meeting of Follow-up Committee on Implementing Darfur Peace Document Concludes

Doha, April 09 (QNA) - The fifth meeting of the Follow-up Committee for implementing Doha Document for Peace in Darfur concluded here today, Chaired by HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah Al-Mahmoud. HE Al-Mahmoud told reporters that the UN-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) made a presentation on the current developments in the West-Sudan region. The president of Darfur Regional Authority and the head of the Sudanese government's delegation also briefed the meeting on the what have been accomplished so far from both sides, HE Al-Mahmoud added. He pointed out that the committee's members made several comments and suggestions, adding that the result of the meeting was positive. The participating countries expressed enthusiasm and support for the peace and development process in the region and that some countries like France pledged to provide additional support for development and reconstruction projects in Darfur, he added. He also said Qatar has been congratulated on the success of the international donors' conference, and many countries, including the Security Council permanent member states expressed enthusiasm and support for the peace process in Darfur and the results of the donors' conference." he said. On behalf of the committee members HE Ahmed Abdullah Al-Mahmoud condemned the attack carried out recently by some movements that have not signed the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur. (QNA)
