Qatar Pledges USD500 Million for Reconstruction of Darfur

Doha, April 08 (QNA) - Qatar has pledged USD 500 million in grants and contributions to the reconstruction of Darfur, HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmad bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud announced Monday. Qatar's pledge came during the first session held in the second day of the International Donor Conference for Reconstruction and Development of Darfur, chaired by HE the Deputy Premier and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs. Addressing the session, HE Al Mahmoud announced that the State of Qatar under the leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, based on its firm position of the importance of establishing peace in Darfur and alleviate the suffering of its people, as well as the initiative of HH the Emir to establish a bank for the development of Darfur with a capital of one billion dollars and the early recovery projects currently being implemented in Darfur; and out of its belief in what has been presented in the strategy development in Darfur which was adopted here, the State of Qatar pledges USD 500 million in grants and contributions to the reconstruction in Darfur.
