UN- AU Special Envoy for Darfur Praises Sudanese Government, JEM Agreement

Doha, April 06 (QNA) - The Special Representative of the African Union and the United Nations for Darfur Mohamed Ibn Chambas has underlined the importance of the peace agreement signed by the Sudanese government and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) this evening in Doha. Chambas also said in his speech at the signing ceremony of the peace agreement that this event is a further testimony which clearly demonstrates the commitment of all parties concerned, particularly the State of Qatar towards achieving peace and stability in Darfur. He extended sincere thanks and gratitude to HH the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani for patronizing the Darfur peace . He also thanked the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani, and the Deputy Premier for Cabinet Affairs HE Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud for their efforts to reach this achievement. He stressed that today's agreement is a real addition and an essential building block on the road to peace in Darfur, commending the parties keenness on dialogue in order to realize Darfur's stability and peace. He called on other armed movements to renounce violence and resort to dialogue on the basis of the Doha document for peace in Darfur, noting that the number of signatories to this document has increased including today's agreement .(QNA)
