Al- Mahdi Lauds Stances of Qatar in Supporting Sudan

Doha, April 04 (QNA) - Assistant of the President of the Republic of Sudan, Abdul-Rahman Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi, has praised the stances of the State of Qatar in supporting Sudan in all domains . Interviewed by Qatar News Agency (QNA), Al-Mahdi praised the role being played by the Qatari leadership in boosting Darfur peace and the arrangements for hosting the Donors' Conference for Rehabilitation and Development in Doha during April 7 - 9. He also lauded Qatar’s active diplomacy to help resolve regional conflicts, especially in Darfur, while expressing his appreciation for the consistent efforts made by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, HE Ahmad bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, to persuade the non-signatories Armed Movements in Darfur to join the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD). The Sudanese official said he held in Doha 'positive talks' with Qatari senior officials to boost bilateral ties between the two countries; especially at the economic level, explained Al-Mahdi. Talks also dealt with the positive developments of the Darfur peace process in light of the new peace agreement between the Sudanese Government and the Justice and Equality Movement due to be signed in Doha on Saturday in addition to a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, he said. Al-Mahdi pointed out this upcoming International Donors' Conference will transfer Darfur to a new phase of stability and development. On the Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir's call to all the political forces to engage in a comprehensive national dialogue and his initiative to release all political detainees in the country, Al-Mahdi considered this move as a 'positive step', which will pave the way for a comprehensive dialogue and engage all the political forces to take part in drafting the new constitution.
