Iran sends first consignment of essential goods for quake victims

The Red Crescent Society of Iran has urgently dispatched the first consignment of essential items worth 310,000 dollars for the affectees of the destructive earthquake which Pakistan's southwest, the Iranian embassy said Saturday.

The items include 1000 tents, 5000 blankets, 30,000 packets of washing powder weighing 15 tons and 10,000 canned units of fish weighing two tons arrived by the land route of Taftan to the quake-hit areas in Balochistan.

According to Iranian embassy, soon after the heart-rending tragedy which took place in Balochistan, the Red Crescent Society of Iran immediately dispatched two doctors along with forty cartons of essential medicine to the worst affected quake-hit areas.

Officials say that around 300 people have been killed in the earthquake of 6.4 magnitude that hit parts of Balochistan on Wednesday.

Some 40,000 people have been displaced, mostly in the district of Ziyarat.
