Mottaki calls for vigilance of regional states

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on Friday underscored the need for vigilance of regional states against conspiracies and mischiefs of the Zionist regime in the Caucasus, Lebanon, and Palestine.

He made the remarks in a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Ali
Babacan held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in
Istanbul on `Europe and Central Asia' (October 30-November 1).

Such Zionist moves are aimed at creation of discord in regional
countries and damaging the territorial integrity and sovereignty of
those states, the Iranian foreign minister added.

On critical situation in Afghanistan, he expressed concern over
increase in production of narcotic drugs and lack of security in the
neighboring state.

He called on the Afghan neighboring countries to help establish
stability and security in the region through continued consultations.

During the meeting, the two foreign ministers expressed hope that the
two countries Joint Economic Commission would be held soon.

The WEF gathered international and regional business leaders as well
as government representatives from Europe, Turkey, Russia, Central
Asia and the Near East.

The main goal of the meeting is to explore business prospects in the
region and to define strategies for alleviating the effects of the
global economic crisis through dialogue as a prerequisite for
progress, stability and security in the region.
