McEwen passes Vogels to snatch victory

Sprint cycling great Robbie McEwen had mixed feelings after sweeping past Henk Vogels in the shadow of the line to win the Noosa Criterium.

Vogels, who was racing in front of his adoring home crowd for the final time before retiring, looked the likely winner after breaking away on the final lap.

But the fairytale finish failed to eventuate, McEwen mowing him down with a withering final sprint.

Tasmanian Belinda Goss won the women's criterium.
