PROJECT ON UNDERGROUND INTRODUCED TO CITY'S ADMINISTRATION

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A project team at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) submitted Wednesday to the UB city authorities a report on the research and a preliminary feasibility study for the underground. This transport system will be created here by 2020. The team considers, that Ulaanbaatar's population is to reach 1.7 million people by 2030, and that the need in public transport might increase 3.1 times. "It is possible that Ulaanbaatar will have the underground by 2020 if the preparation starts next year and a construction from 2016," the project's experts said. By the project, the 17.7 km underground line will be constructed under ground between the city's west and east cross roads and also over bridges along the Peace Avenue. It is also planned to furnish stations in the city's center and to erect underground complex of service centers. The metro is calculated to reduce emission of poisonous gas and cars' smoke by 30 percent and to decrease road accidents. According to the investment research, the construction of the underground requires USD 1.5 billion. It is projected that USD 600 million will be allotted from the JICA and other international organizations, and 700 million--from the Mongolian side. B.Khuder
