PANIN BANK CHALKS UP Q3 NET PROFIT OF RP672 BILLION
Jakarta, Oct. 31 (ANTARA) - Publicly listed PT Bank Panin Tbk in the third quarter of 2008 booked a net profit of Rp672 billion thanks to an increase in its interest and fee-based earnings, a spokesperson said.
Speaking at a press conference here Friday, Panin Bank Vice President Director Roosniati Salihin said the bank's net interest earnings amounted to Rp1.99 trillion or up 10 percent, while its net profit after deduction of minority rights increased 3.1 percent to Rp672 billion.
However, the bank's fee-based income dropped to Rp429 billion from Rp474 billion, mainly due to the impact of the market turmoil and a significant drop in the volume of commercial paper trading.
"Amidst the global market turmoil which has affected the banking world's tight liquidity, and the negative sentiments pressuring the market in general, the national banking industry up to this year's third quarter still shows a good business performance," she said.
Panin Bank's third party funds amounted to Rp43.34 trillion, or up 56 percent from the same period last year.
The bank channeled credits amounted to Rp37.03 trillion, or up 38 percent. Some 67 percent of the credits were channeled to the small and medium scale businesses and consumers, while 33 percent to the corporate sector, she said.
"The condition of Indonesia's macro economy is fundamentally better than in the 1998 crisis. However, the national banking sector must continue to be on alert," she said.
