GOVT : ELECTRICITY PRICE TOO HIGH
Jakarta, Oct 31 (ANTARA) - The government judged that the 30 percent increase in the price of electricity as planned by state electricity company PLN for 2009 is too high.
Director General for Electricity and Energy Utilization of the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, J Purwono, said that the government would recount and study again the PLN's plan.
"Thirty percent is too big," he said while accompanying Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro visiting a bio-diesel factory, PT Darmex Biofuels, in Bekasi, some 30 kilometers east of here Friday.
He said the planned price increase should wait for the completion of the conversion program from fuel oil to coal and gas fired power plants, like the 10,000 MW crash program.
Beside that, Purnomo said, the government would observe the price application regionally, to see areas where the price could be imposed higher than in other regions.
The electricity price in Java is higher for the higher and better services.
