HH the Emir's Arab Summit Presidency Ensures its Success - Algerian FM
Doha, March 22 (QNA) - Algerian Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci has expressed great confidence in the ability of HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani to ensure the success of twenty-fourth Arab Summit, due to be held in Doha this month despite the difficult circumstances the region is going through.
In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), Medleci said the summit will be held amid a lot of Arab issues that require finding elements for its success and the disperse of Arab concerns which adversely affect the Arab reality.
Although the Algerian Foreign Minister acknowledged that the summit will be held under difficult circumstances, he expressed great confidence in the Emir who will chair the summit and the Arab leaders. "That will make us optimistic that the Doha summit will be successful," Medleci said.
In response to a question about the most important topics on the agenda, Medelci said there are many topics, regarding developments of the Palestinian problem and the Arab-Israeli conflict, will be submitted to the summit for consideration by the Arab leaders as well as developments on the Syrian crisis, topics related to the joint Arab action and the development of the Arab League and its specialized organizations including the establishment of the Arab Court of Human Rights .
He added that the summit's agenda will address primarily in its political aspect developments of the Palestinian issue and the stalled peace process because of Israel's intransigence and defiance of the international community and failure to acknowledge the political process.
Medleci added that in the economic aspect, the summit will touch on important topics directly related to our Arab reality that require a comprehensive political will which is available, and moreover the Arab leaders are keen on promoting the joint Arab action to the best possible levels, noting that the difficult circumstance the Arab region is passing through would exacerbate the already difficult economic situation which is affected by the repercussion of the global economic crisis.
On the political mobilization in Algeria in light of the Arab Spring, Medelci said that Algeria was moving steadily towards sustainable growth and prosperity. He noted that Algeria has already went through its process of change back in the eighties when it implemented deep political and economic reforms. As a result, he added, the Algerian people were focusing on helping the country develop economically.
On the tension on Algerian borders and how the Algerian government was handling the situation, Medelci said that the army was constantly monitoring developments on the border in order to protect the country from any acts of aggression. He said the Algerian security forces were working tirelessly on protecting the country's national security.
Medleci revealed that the Algerian government was currently discussing a security strategy with its neighboring countries in order to protect their borders from any acts of aggression.
Algeria had hosted a meeting of the foreign ministers of North African countries in July 2012 to discuss the security issues in these countries. They agreed on a number of mechanisms that they were moving to implement, the Minister said. (QNA)
