ABU BAKAR BAASYIR REJECTS AMROZI ET AL`S EXECUTION
Solo, Indonesia, Oct 31 (ANTARA) - The chairman of Jamaa Ansharud Tauhid (JAT) in Surakarta, Abu Bakar Baasyir, has strongly rejected the imminent execution of Bali I bombers Amrozi, Mukhlas alias Ali Gufron, and Imam Samudra.
"We strongly reject the execution of our Muslim brothers," Baasyir said, adding that the government's decision to bring Amrozi et al before firing squads was cruel because it was "against the real facts."
"The decision violates the basic principles of Article 28 of the 1945 Constitution and Article 1 of the Criminal Code (KUHP)," he added.
Baasyir opined that government officials would be committing wanton murder because up to the present it was not knows who the real actors of Bali bombings were.
"Whoever among government officials legalizes the execution and helps to carry out the execution should be held responsible," Baasyir said.
Meanwhile, National Police Headquarters had instructed the police in three provinces to step up security in the run up to and after the execution of Amrozi et al.
"The three provinces are East Java, Central Java, and Banten," National Police Headquarters public relation division chief Insp Gen Abubakar Nataprawira told the press in Jakarta on Friday.
He said Central Java police were asked to intensify security because the execution would be carried out there and the prison of the three death row convicts are also there.
While the police in East Java and Banten are also instructed to tighten the security because Amrozi, Mukhlas and Imam Samudra are from those two provinces.
"The National Police Headquarters have yet to come to level one alert status but the security anticipation should be tightened," Abubakar Nataprawira said.
He said security in those three provinces would be tightened at vital objects such as foreign countries representative offices, shopping malls, bus terminals, railway stations, and places of worship.
Asked about a specific date of the execution, Abubakar refused to comment but said the police were ready to bring Amrozi et al to firing squad any time.
