HCM City exports 24,000 crocodiles in ten months
HCM City (VNA) - Four CITES-licensed enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City
exported 24,000 crocodiles in the first ten months of 2008, according to
the city's Department of Forest Rangers.
The amount includes 13,000 live crocodiles and nearly 20,000 sets of
crocodile skin.
The firms are expected to export another 15,000 crocodiles in the last two
months of 2008, thus earning 3.7 million USD in the whole year.
Crocodile meat is currently sold on domestic markets at 90,000-95,000
VND/kg (5.4-5.7 USD), while the price of live crocodiles exported to China
stands at 110,000 VND/kg (6.6 USD).
Major markets for crocodile exports are Japan , Singapore ,
France , Thailand , the Republic of Korea and China.-Enditem
