WOMAN NETWORK TO FILE JUDICIAL REVIEW OVER PORN BILL

Semarang, Oct 31 (ANTARA) - The Child and Woman Protection Nework (JPPA) in Central Java will file a judicial review on the Pornography Bill if it is really passed into law, its coordinator said.

JPPA coordinator for Central Java, Agnes Widanti, said her network will file a judicial review of the bill together with a number of other social organizations which were opposed to the porn bill.

She said that there was no need to endorse the bill because if it was passed into law it would victimize many people, women in particular.

Widanti said that the bill virtually was against the 1945 Constitution and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).

Besides, the implementation of the law would cause troubles to law enforcers such as police, prosecutors and judges, she said.

After years of controversy, the House of Representatives (DPR) on Thursday finally passed the Bill on Pornography into law.

The agreement to pass the bill was reached in a House plenary meeting led by House Speaker Agung Laksono at the Parliament Building on Thursday at 1.15 pm local time.
