MILITARY TO HELP MAINTAIN SECURITY FOR BALI BOMBERS EXECUTION
Magelang, C Java, Oct 31 (ANTARA) - National Defense Forces (TNI) Commander General Djoko Santoso said the TNI would help the police maintain security in connection with the upcoming execution of the three Bali I bombers, Amrozi, Mukhlas and Imam Samudra.
"The TNI is approaching regional police commands," he said after presiding over a ceremony marking the graduation of 531 cadets from the TNI Academy.
He said National Police Chief General Bambang Hendarso Danuri and his staff had recently come to meet him at the TNI headquarters to discuss security in every region in view of the planned execution of the three Bali bombing death-row convicts.
The Attorney General's Office recently announced the execution of the convicts would be done early in November in Nusakambangan, Cilacap, Central Java, where the convicts were being held.
General Djoko Santoso said TNI and police personnel would perform their security safeguarding tasks in every region in close coordination with each other.
He declined to explain the position of the TNI with regard to the security program in the field. "It's technical," he said.
He said the number of TNI personnel to be deployed to help the police in every region would be determined based on the police's need for assistance.
