Qatar Warns of Ongoing Deterioration of Situation in Syria

Geneva, March 11 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has warned that the ongoing deterioration of the situation in Syria poses a direct threat to peace and stability in the region, and threaten the unity of the Syrian territory and sovereignty. It also expressed deep frustration at the failure of the international community in shouldering its legal and moral responsibilities to end series torture, massacres, and war crimes committed by the Syrian regime forces against the Syrian people who defend their basic rights, the right to life and living with dignity and humanity. This came in a speech delivered today by HE Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations in Geneva at the 22nd Session of the Human Rights Council, currently being held in Geneva, under the fourth item on the agenda, and on "interactive dialogue with the International Independent Investigation Commission on the Syrian Arab Republic. " HE Sheikha Alia stressed that what is happening now in Syria indicating that the Syrian people are living beyond repression and abuses which is strongly condemned by the Human Rights Council. HE Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani stressed that Qatar condemns in the strongest possible terms all criminal acts and massacres and abuses committed by the Syrian regime, causing the displacement of more than four million Syrian citizens, and increased the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Syria.(QNA)
