BRI'S Q3 PROFIT AFTER TAX UP 17.13 PERCENT

Jakarta, Oct. 31 (ANTARA) - State owned Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) in the third quarter of 2008 recorded an after-tax profit of Rp4.238 trillion, up 17.13 percent from Rp3.618 trillion in the same period last year.

"Despite tight liquidity, we recorded a profit in this third quarter because we are not affected by the funds cost fluctuation, because we limit the deposit interest rate at only 12 percent maximally, and up to now the amount is less than Rp10 trillion," BRI President Director Sofyan Basir said here on Friday.
BRI had channeled credits amounting to Rp151.457 trillion in the third quarter of this year, up 43.49 percent from last year.
The bank's gross non-performing loans was 2.9 percent, down 4.99 percent from last year's third quarter, he said.
Meanwhile, Bank BRI Director Bambang Soepeno said that the bank's interest earnings were up 18.16 percent to Rp20.270 trillion compared with the same period last year.
Of the total interest earnings, some 79.51 percent was from the credit interests, he explained.
He said the net interest margin was up 18.63 percent to Rp14.695 trillion.
In the third quarter of 2008, BRI's third party funds amounted to Rp175.39 trillion, up 22.76 percent from the same period a year earlier. BRI's assets grew 23.27 percent to become Rp178.109 trillion during this year's third quarter.
