Snooker Chief Expects Qatari Cueists to Fare Well at Asian Event
Doha, March 6 (QNA) - The Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation (QBSF) president is optimistic Qatari cueists will perform well at the Asian Snooker Team Event Six Red Championship to be hosted by Doha in May this summer.
QBSF President Mohamed Mubarak Al Ramzani, "We are expecting 4-5 Qatari players to participate in the tournament and I am expecting them to show good form.
"Our players have often reached semi-finals and finals of tournaments and I can confidently say that our players are some of the best from the Arabian countries."
He spoke to the media after announcing Qatar Fuel Additives Company s (QAFAC) as sponsors of the championship to be held here from May 24 to 30. The sponsorship contract was signed with QAFAC General Manager Nasser Jeham Al Kuwari.
Al-Kuwari said QAFAC was looking to support various sporting disciplines to encourage sporting activities among locals.
"We are proud to associate with the event," he said. "QAFAC believes in supporting sports initiatives in Qatar. We supported the National Sport Day celebrations. Now, we are also looking forward to support other sports and Qatari sportspersons in the country."
QAFAC had recently announced that it would be sponsoring Qatari rally driver Abdullah al-Kuwari for the upcoming Qatar National Rally 2012-13.
QBSF Secretary General Mohamed Salem Al Nuaimi said he hoped that the federation's association with QAFAC continues. "We thank QAFAC for their support of the tournament and hope that our association continues for other events and tournaments of the future," he said.
Twenty-three countries have confirmed participation in the tournament, which will be held at QBSF's main facility in Doha, QBSF officials said. (QNA)
