Qatar's Al Thawadi in Fray for FIFA Executive Panel
Kuala Lumpur, March 05 (QNA) - Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee Secretary-General Hassan Al Thawadi will contest for the FIFA Executive Committee position for 2013-17 term, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has said.
Among the nominees for AFC President post for the 2013-15 term are Saudi Arabia' Dr Hafez Ibrahim Al Medlej, UAE football chief Yousuf Al Serkal, Thailand's Worawi Makudi (Thailand) and Bahrain's Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa who is also contesting for the post on FIFA's Executive Committee.
The AFC has 47 member associations in all. Worawi Makudi already has the backing of the 12 votes from Southeast Asia. Acting AFC President China's Zhang Jilong has pulled out of the contest.
AFC has received the following other nominations for the extraordinary electoral Congress of the confederation on May 2.
For the AFC Vice-President post (Female; 2013-2015) Moya Dodd (Australia). For the two AFC Executive Committee members (Females; 2013-2015) Han Un-gyong (DPR Korea), Moya Dodd (Australia) and Susan Shalabi Molano (Palestine).
The nominations will now be scrutinised and the list of candidates will be sent to the Member Associations one month prior to the Congress in accordance with the AFC Statutes. (QNA)
