Blasts symbolic of country's sense of insecurity: BJP

New Delhi, Oct 30 (PTI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (B.J.P.) Thursday accused the United Progressive Alliance (U.P.A.) government of failing to combat terror, saying the serial blasts in Assam were symbolic of the sense of insecurity in the country.

"I believe that these blasts are symbolic of the sense of
insecurity in the country. This also proves the total failure
of the government in combating terrorism," B.J.P. senior
leader L.K. Advani said.

He attacked the U.P.A. government for its failure to
check illegal infiltration of Bangladeshi migrants into the
country, particularly Assam.

"There is a possibility of the involvement of illegal
Bangladeshi migrants as was the case in some of the earlier
blasts. It exposes the issue (of illegal Bangladeshi
immigration)," the Opposition leader said.

Bangladeshi migrants were allegedly involved in the
Jaipur blasts earlier this year.

Party chief Rajnath Singh also spoke on the same lines,
alleging that a "confused" government in Delhi is responsible
for the serial blasts as it shied away from taking action
against illegal Bangladeshi migrants due to its vote-bank
considerations.

"This is all due to a confused government in Delhi which
lacks determination and is shying away from action against the
terror elements. Vote-bank considerations stop them from
identifying and deporting illegal Bangladeshi migrants," he
said.

Singh said it is high time the government kept aside its
political considerations and discussed the issue with all
stake holders, including the Opposition, to evolve a national
consensus on the issue.

Senior B.J.P. leader and former Prime Minister Atal
Bihari Vajpayee also condemned the blasts, calling them "a
heinous crime against humanity and part of a conspiracy to
divide the country".

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Jaswant Singh
said, "We are victims of multiple crisis. On the one hand,
there is an economic crisis and on the other, there is a near
total governmental malfunctioning and lack of governance".

He took a dig at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his
alleged laxity in combating terror. "Since he is an M.P. from
Assam, he has a double responsibility," Jaswant said. He also
criticised the government for maintaining there was no
intelligence failure even after the blasts.

On the illegal Bangladeshi immigration issue, the senior
B.J.P. leader said the U.P.A. government had not paid heed to
the recent Supreme Court observation that non-implementation
of the Illegal Migrants-Determination by Tribunals (I.M.D.T.)
Act had led to "disabling the state and enabling the
infiltrators".

"This is leading to demographic invasion of Assam," he
alleged.

B.J.P. spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said the blasts are
"yet another example that shows Congress is clueless on
terror".

"Whether it is Students' Islamic Movement of India
(S.I.M.I.), Harkat-ul Jihad-e-Islami (H.u.J.I.) or United
Liberation Front of Asom (U.L.F.A.), perpetrators are known to
the state. This is a direct outcome of Congress soft-pedalling
terror. It seemingly wants to debate terror with no conviction
to efface terror," Rudy said.

The Rajya Sabha MP alleged that Congress was not likely
to wake up to the terror challenge. "It is time for India to
wake up to this reality (about the Congress)," he said. PTI RC
