L.BOLD GIVES SPEECH AT CONFERENCE OF DISARMAMENT

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ With a working visit to Switzerland, the Minister of Foreign Affairs L.Bold arrived Tuesday in the Council Chamber of the Conference on Disarmament (CD) which is running at the United Nations Office in Geneva.
He was welcomed by Ms Sujata Mehta, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the Conference on Disarmament; and Mr Jarmo Sareva, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament and Director. Then Mr Bold met representatives of the CD members and took the floor at the plenary meeting.
Mr Bold said he appreciated an importance of the CD which is considered as the only podium for discussing the disarmament issues, and talked about Mongolia's policy over issues reflected in the CD's list of agendas.
Mongolia strongly backs intensive efforts of the international community to forward goals of disarmament and disarmament of nuclear weapons, he said. It is important to break the long-year obstruction of the CD and to restore its activities, he stressed and highly spoke an enthusiasm of the Secretary-Generals of the UN and the CD who express a readiness of the Mongolian representatives to back any initiatives of breaking the deadlock in CD's actions.
Emphasizing that the regime of the contract on nuclear weapon disarmament is a multilateral mechanism for the disarmament, the Foreign Minister affirmed his country's position which supports a realization of the Action Plan issued by the CD in 2010. Mongolia stays on a position that the nuclear weapon states (NWS) must play an important role in the Action Plan's implementation as well.
In view of his, the FM appreciated importance of resolutions on disarmament which were released by the 67th session of the UN General Assembly, and said Mongolia wants to contribute to implementing of these resolutions.
Mr Bold said the nuclear weapon-free regions have been significantly contributing to strengthening of the global and regional peace and security, ensuring the regime of disarmament of nuclear weapons, and forwarding the goals of cutting number of nuclear weapons. Mongolia is one of the countries to contribute, he added.
He mentioned that Mongolia celebrated in 2012 the 20th anniversary of the proclamation of its nuclear weapon-free status, and said Mongolia has been doing its best to fortify this status. In a scope of this, the UNGA session of 2012 adopted the resolution on the International Security for Mongolia and its nuclear weapon-free status, and the nuclear weapon states signed a joint declaration on the issue, Mr Bold underlined.
After the speech, permanent representatives of the NWS to the CD congratulated the Mongolian Foreign Minister.
