SENIOR MUHAMMADIYAH MEMBER CONDEMNS US AIR STRIKE ON SYRIAN BORDER
Jambi, Oct 30 (ANTARA) - A senior member of the Jambi chapter of the Islamic organization Muhammadiyah condemned Thursday a US air strike on the Syrian border that killed eight civilians.
"We strongly condemn and cannot accept the US air strike," H Nasroel Yasir said.
Yasir called on Muslim countries, including Indonesia to be united in denouncing what he termed "US troops' uncivilized act".
Muslim countries must be united to fight US President George W. Bush's arrogance and hatred to Muslim countries, he said.
"Should Muslim countries be united to fight against the US arrogance, I think the US will no longer act arbitrarily," he said.
The US which claimed to be champion of democracy and human rights has been marred by the US president, he said.
Syria has said U.S. helicopters struck a border village on Sunday night, killing eight people. Washington has refused to confirm the raid, which Iraq said targeted staging grounds used by militants.
The Cairo-based Arab League (AL) on Monday denounced the U.S. air strike on Sunday inside the Syrian territories.
Such a violation undermines efforts to establish regional security and may lead to more tensions in the region, Xinhua quoted the pan-Arab body as saying.
