SOME 100,000 INDONESIANS SEEK MEDICAL TREATMENT OVERSEAS EVERY YEAR
Bekasi, West Java, Oct. 30 (ANTARA) - An average of 100,000 Indonesians spend around US$600 million on medical treatment overseas every year, according to Health Minister Siti Fadillah Supari.
Noting that the figures showed many Indonesians were still "foreign-oriented" when they needed medical treatment, the minister said these Indonesians should discard the orientation.
Supari made the remarks at a function to mark the start of physical construction of n "Medical City" of international standards at Cikarang on Wednesday.
The 74-hectare-wide Medical City was expected to be able to attract those who usually seek medical help abroad, she said at the ceremony also attended by among others National Education Minister Bambang Sudibyo.
A 'Jababeka' Research Center would also be developed in the area to facilitate research work in the industrial, biotechnological and medical fields.
