JAPAN'S PM AGREES TO RI PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION'S PROPOSAL

Jakarta, Oct 30 (ANTARA) - Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso has agreed to an Indonesian parliamentary delegation's proposal that Japan should take a major step to overcome global financial crisis so that it would not put serious pressures on the Asian economy.

"We from the Indonesian-Japanese Parliamentary League have the honor to meet the Japanese prime minister and to put forward a number of proposals on efforts to cope with the global financial crisis. And our proposals got positive response from the prime minister," Chairman of the Indonesian-Japanese Parliamentary League Yusron Ihza Mahendra said through the phone from Japan on Wednesday night.

Mahendra quoted the prime minister as saying that the financial crisis which originated from the United States was caused by the big volume of paper economy with an uncontrollable impact.

Aso agreed that common efforts must be made soon to change the dynamic of the uncontrollable paper economy, namely by strengthening the resilience of the Asian monetary system.

"During our 20-minute meeting, we also proposed the re-establishment of what was once called a 'yen block' which was expected to ward off the invasion crisis of the West," Mahendra said.

In response to this proposal, Aso said that a serious step must be taken immediately to simultaneously reinforce the monetary and the real sectors in Asia.

"Japan will take a pioneer and concrete step to strengthen the monetary sector and develop the real sector in Asia," Mahendra added.
