Faith in Chinese govt diminishing: Dalai

Dharamsala, Oct 29 (PTI) Peeved at lack of response from
China towards resolving the vexed Tibetan issue, spiritual
leader Dalai Lama says he will hold talks with Beijing only if
it honestly engages itself in dialogue.

"It is very difficult to deal with people who are not
sincere," he told members of the Tibetan community at a
function here on Saturday.

"If Chinese leaders honestly engage themselves in talks,
than I will also sincerely engage with them," the Buddhist
monk said.

He expressed dismay over what he said lack of positive
response from China towards resolving the lingering Tibetan
issue.

"I have faith and trust in Chinese people. But, may
faith and trust in the Chinese government is diminishing," the
73-year-old top religious leader of the Tibetans said.

Apparently unhappy over accusations that he was behind
the recent unrest in Tibet, he said "there is no need for me
to interfere. The issue shall be better decided by Tibetans."

The Dalai Lama said he had called a six-day meeting
of prominent leaders of his community, beginning November 17,
at Dharamsala, the seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile.

The meeting will discuss issues relating to the future of
Tibet, he said.

Meanwhile, China Wednesday asked the spiritual leader to
make a positive response and treasure the opportunity of a new
round of talks.

Reacting to this, Thubten Samphel, Secretary (Foreign
Affairs) of the Tibetan government in-exile, said "the whole
world knows that the Dalai Lama has all along sincerely worked
towards resolving the issue."

Tenzin Takhla, an aide of the spiritual leader, said the
date for next round of talks was likely to be finalised in a
few days.
