Consumer Protection Uncovers Irregularities in Computer Stores' Products

Doha, February 09 (QNA) - The Ministry of Business and Trade said Saturday that its inspection of computer stores discovered that some of the stores sell counterfeited printer inks as trademark ones. The Ministry said that those who did so were fined and were referred to the specialized security entities. A statement released to the press by the ministry said that their inspection was in application of article no. 7 of law no.8 of 2008 on consumer protection. The law asked suppliers to display the brand and components of a product on its box or case in a clear manner. Information such as the health risk of using the product must be inscribed on the case in order to protect the consumer. The law also forbids false advertising. Head of the Consumer Protection Department Sheikh Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani said that the law requires suppliers to abide by the standards set by the State in order to maintain health and safety.
