PRESIDENT'S PRESENT ARRIVES IN JAPAN

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A unique gift from Mongolia's President to Japan landed Wednesday in Tokyo.
The alive present--three Takhi horses (Przewalski's horse)--will be transported from there to Tama Zoological Park in April.
According to the Mongolian tradition by which a horse is greatly respected and is presented to the most honourable guest only, the leader of Mongolia has been giving these beautiful creatures to the Japanese people in recognition of their immence help rendered at out hard times. Besides, the President during his official visit to Japan in 2010 promised to present the Takhi horses to Japan at its request to have the animals in its zoo. Thus in last year's November, a memorandum of understanding was established between the Office of the Mongolian President and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office on a project on protection of Takhi horse. An international convention prohibits transferring wild animals to a zoo but does not apply it to a transfer from one soo to another, and this allowed the sides to ink this memorandum.
Before flying to Japan the horses had been brought to Holland and kept for a while--two from Switzerland and one from Austria. On the boad they were tended by several vets and specialists of the Swiss zoo.
A great gratitude is expressed to the Presidential Office, the International Group for Takhi horse, Administration of Tokyo, Mongolia's Ministry of Environment and Green Development, Environment Protection Fund, Embassy of Mongolia in Japan, Embassy of Japan in Mongolia.
