PROJECT TO BE REALIZED TO IMPROVE SELF-GOVERNANCE OF LOCALITIES

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A three-year project on supporting parliament and on improving capability of the self-governance bodies of localities will be co-implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Parliamentary Office in Mongolia. The UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia Ms Sezin Sinanoglu said it during a meeting with Z.Enkhbold, the Speaker of the State Great Khural on Wednesday. In frames of this project, a policy research is to carried out into the parliamentary actions since an adoption of the new Constitution, the ties will strengthen between voters and MPs, a report will be released on implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, and refined will be a realization of the laws and resolutions regarding ethics and conflicts of interests. Moreover, other works will be done such as ensuring the civil participation in law-making, tackling people's petitions, running open discussions with parties interested, and ensuring people's right to obtain information. The Speaker said he attaches a great importance to the project, and underlined an importance of it in authorizing the Citizens' Representative Khurals of aimags and soums to monitor their governors in accordance with the Constitution. He expressed satisfaction with the project for improving the self-governance bodies of localities, adding that now the Citizens' Representative Khural can enjoy its right given by the Constitution.
