Qatar Charity Spent QR123 in Gaza over 16 Years

Doha, February 05 (QNA) - Qatar Charity (QC) has spent around QR123 million on charity and development projects in the Gaza Strip since it started operating there 16 years ago, a press statement by the organization revealed. The projects, which were carried out jointly with Qatari and non-Qatari partners and benefited nearly two million people, included the vital and significant sectors of relief, education, health, social welfare, combating poverty, agriculture and economic empowerment, in addition to a range of in-kind and financial assistance allocated to poor and needy families within seasonal projects such as Ramadan's Iftar, Eid's sacrifices, and Zakat al-Fitr. QC has recently appointed Ibrahim Zainal, a Qatari citizen, director of its office in Gaza as the organization aims to develop the services of the office, the release said. Zainal is the first Qatari figure to run a QC office out of Qatar. Among the most important recent QC projects in the Gaza Strip are relief projects, nutritional care centers, mosques, Quran education centers, educational projects, as well as several social and seasonal projects, said Zainal. The past year has been full of QC projects that were either carried out or launched in Gaza, including construction projects, in-kind assistance and seasonal projects. Among last year's projects were social solidarity projects, which included covering the expenses of orphans, poor families, people with disabilities, students and preachers, with a cost of more than QR12 million.
