Deputy Premier: Darfur Reconstruction Conference to Convene in Doha Next April

Doha, February 05 (QNA) - HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmad bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud announced Tuesday that the International Conference on Reconstruction and Development of Darfur will be held in Doha on April 7 and 8. The announcement came after HE the Deputy Premier met today with Chairperson of the Darfur Regional Authority Dr. Tijani Sese, Minister of State in the Sudanese Presidency and Head of the Darfur Follow-up Office Dr. Amin Hassan Omer; and the UN-AU Joint Special Representative for Darfur and head of the joint UN-AU peacekeeping mission in the west Sudanese region (UNAMID) Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas. HE Al Mahmoud noted that the date of the conference has been set after consultation with regional and international partners and the Sudanese government and the Liberation and Justice Movement - the parties to the peace agreement signed in Doha on 14 July 2011 on the basis of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur. The International Conference on Reconstruction and Development of Darfur comes in implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur which stipulated the importance of convening an international donors conference in order to contribute to the reconstruction and development in Darfur.
