Permanent Emergency Committee Holds Workshop on Disaster Management
Doha, February 03 (QNA) - The Permanent Emergency Committee, jointly with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), on Sunday held a workshop on the management of emergencies, with a participation of 27 people from the different concerned government bodies, a participant from Kuwait and another from Oman.
A number of experts in the field of crisis management and emergency will lecture in the workshop that takes place between February 3-12.
The workshop aims to identify the key aspects of emergencies whether natural disasters or not, and to educate participants about international humanitarian law, international protection, principles and mechanisms of protection in cases of emergency, the implementation of standards and key indicators of emergency, in addition to managing the personal preparations of deployment during emergencies.
In a speech given on behalf of HE Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi, the Director General of Public Security and Chairman of the Permanent Emergency Committee, Brigadier Ali Mohamed Al-Rashed, the Permanent Emergency Committee member, reiterated the committee's due keenness on organizing workshops and training programs for those involved in dealing with crises and emergencies.
He further said that the committee strives to raise the standards of Qatari cadres and concerned entities so as to be capable of dealing with any emergency and minimize losses.
HE Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi noted that the significance of the workshop stems from the important issues it tackles such as the management and responding to emergencies, whether natural or human and the mechanisms of humanitarian protection. (QNA)
