HE Al Nasr Participates in Delhi Sustainable Development Summit
New Delhi, February 02 (QNA) - Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday met with the U.N.'s High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) HE Nasser bin Abdul Aziz Al Nasr, where they discussed the potential role of the alliance in achieving sustainable development.
The meeting came on the sidelines of the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit, which is organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) between January 31 and February 2.
Addressing the summit, HE Nasser bin Abdul Aziz Al Nasr noted that the UNAOC Fourth Forum, which took place in Doha earlier in December 2011, highlighted the close relationship between dialogue among the different cultures and civilizations on the one hand, and sustainable development on the other.
He added that he will adopt this approach while leading UNAOC after the fifth forum in March, noting that he will work on activating its role in development, equal opportunities and peace.
He also reviewed the alliance's role in supporting sustainable development during his term as the president of the 66th U.N. General Assembly in 2011-2012.
Also on the sidelines of the summit, the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) today awarded an honorary doctorate in philosophy to HE Nasser bin Abdul Aziz Al Nasr in recognition of his role in supporting international efforts to achieve sustainable development.
For his part, HE Qatar's Ambassador to India Hassan Mohammed Rafeh Al-Emadi held a banquet dinner to honor HE Nasser bin Abdul Aziz Al Nasr, in the presence of Arab ambassadors and a number of foreign ambassadors and senior Indian officials. (QNA)
