SECURITY AT BOROBUDUR TIGHTENED AS BALI BOMBERS' EXECUTION IMMINENT

Magelang, Oct 29 (ANTARA) - Security around Borobudur temple in Magelang, Central Java, is being tightened with the imminent execution of Bali-I bombers Amrozi, Mukhlas alias Ali Gufron, and Imam Samudra.
"Backed up by the police, Borobudur security guards are intensifying security around the temple as the execution of Amrozi et al is imminent," local police spokesman Adjunct Senior Commissioner Subambang said here on Wednesday.
The Attorney General's Office (AGO) in Jakarta announced recently that convicted Bali I bombers Amrozi et al would be executed early November, 2008 in Nusakambangan, Cilacap district, Central Java.
AGO spokesman Jasam Pandjaitan said death-row convicts Amrozi, Mukhlas and Imam Samudra had pursued the last existing legal avenue unsuccessfully and the result of the process was now legally binding.
"The three did not apply for pardon so the execution can be carried out soon," he said, adding "Their execution will be carried out early November."
Security at the Borobudur tourist site had so far been maintained by in-house security guards assisted by 15 tourist police personnel and a number of Borobudur sector police officers.
However, Subambang said a nine-member group from the Magelang police had been deployed to reinforce the temple's security unit.
Meanwhile, security at several sensitive locations in Cilacap, was also being tightened.
On Monday, police intensified security at state oil company PT Pertamina's refinery in Cilacap, a Pertamina spokesman, Kurdi Susanto said.
