SPEAKER HOLDS NEGOTIATIONS WITH WU BANGGUO

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ An official ceremony took place Wednesday on the Sukhbaatar Square to welcome Mr Wu Bangguo, the Chairman and Party secretary of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China. Mr Wu Bangguo paid tribute to the Monument of Chingis Khaan and put his signature in the Book for Honored Guests in the State House. For the time being, the Speaker of the State Great Khural Z.Enkhbold and the NPC's Standing Committee Chairman Mr Wu Bangguo are holding negotiations. Before starting them Mr Enkhbold thanked his Chinese counterpart for visiting Mongolia and expressed a hop the negotiations will be fruitful. After the negotiations, the sides will sign a memorandum. ** ** ** According to brief archives of the two countries' legislative bodies, high-level mutual visits have been paid regularly since the establishment of the diplomatic relations in 1949. Party and governmental delegation of the former People's Republic of Mongolia led by Yu.Tsedenbal visited the PRC in 1952, 1959 and 1962; a head of the Presidium of the People's Great Khural J.Sambuu--in 1954; the First-Secretary of the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (now Mongolian People's Party) Damba--in 1956; a head of the Presidium of the People's Great Khural B.Jargalsaikhan--in 1960; a head of the People's Great Khural L.Rinchin--1988; and a head of the Presidium of the People's Great Khural P.Ochirbat--in 1990. From China's side, a Vice President of the PRC Zhu De paid a visit to Mongolia in 1956; a Vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC Lin Bogui--1959; the Premier of the State Council Zhou Enlai--in 1954 and 1960; a Vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC Peng Chung--in 1987; and the PRC President Yang Shangkun--in 1991. The inter-parliamentary relations have intensified since 1990s. A chairman of the State Conference of Mongolia and the Vice President of the People's Republic of Mongolia R.Gonchigdorj visited China in 1991, establishing an agreement. Parliament Speakers of Mongolia visited China in 1994, 2000, 2002 and 2008. From China, a delegation led by Qiao Shi, Chairman of SC of the NPC visited Mongolia in 1997; Premier Li Peng--in 1994; Vice-Premier cum Foreign Minister--in 1997, President Jiang Zemin--in 1999; Member of the SC of PB of Central Committee of the CPC cum Secretary of the Secretariat Wei Jianxin--in 2000; and President Hu Jintao--in 2003.
