Bangladesh launches Taka 1,000 notes

Dhaka, Oct 28 (PTI) Bangladesh Tuesday launched bank
notes of Taka 1,000 denomination for the first time in the
country to meet the growing demand of the currency in the
market.

Bangladesh Bank officials said the new bank notes would
be available in commercial banks from Tuesday, a day after the
central bank governor announced the launching of the note.

They said several security measures were taken to check
counterfeiting of the highest denomination bank note.

The note is a little larger in size than other notes in
circulation while the colour is reddish-violet bearing
pictures of the Shaheed Minar on the front and Curzon Hall of
the Dhaka University on the back.

The cause of blind people was also considered in minting
the new note as they would easily feel five circles printed
on the right side of the note after touching it, the officials
said.

The central bank has issued 200 million pieces of Tk
1000-denomination bank note initially, they said.
