OBSERVER: EITHER MEGA OR SBY WILL WIN 2009 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Jakarta, Oct 28 (ANTARA) - Political observer Arbi Sanit predicted here on Tuesday that Yudhoyono or Megawati would win Indonesia's presidential elections in 2009.
"Those who have a chance to win are obviously only the two, either SBY (current president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono) or former president Megawati," he said after speaking at a panel discussion.
The lecturer of state University of Indonesia said that other candidates would only become participants or their chance to win would be slim. "That is the real situation. Those trying to propose alternative candidates are the ones who miss reality," he said.
In view of the situation Arbi said he therefore agreed with the idea of setting high standard requirements for presidential nomination by political parties or coalition of parties so that the number of presidential tickets would not be more than three couples.
He said high standard requirements would also compel parties to form a large coalition to support the president elect to run his administration smoothly.
