AMROZI ET AL'S EXECUTION IN BALI HIGH PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE'S HANDS

Jakarta, Oct 28 (ANTARA) - The execution of Bali I bombers Amrozi, Mukhlas alias Ali Gufron, and Imam Samudra is in the hands of the Bali high prosecutor's office (Kejati), Attorney General's Office's Legal Information Center chief Jasman Panjaitan said here on Tuesday.

Based on a decision, the Attorney General's Office (AGO) has given a directive about the execution which was expected to be carried out early next month.

"The execution is in the hands of the Bali High Prosecutor's Office because it is in accordance with Law No.2/Pnps/1964 on Procedures to Implement the Death Penalty," Panjaitan said.

He said according to article 14 of the law, if all preparations were completed, the responsible prosecutors would order the execution to be carried out.

"Therefore, the Bali High Prosecutor's Office will decide the date of the execution," Panjaitan said, adding that the Central Java police would act as technical executor after getting directives from the Bali high prosecutor's office.

Meanwhile, it was reported from Cilacap, Central Java, on Monday that security at several sensitive locations was being tightened with the imminent execution of Amrozi et al.

On Monday, police intensified security at state oil company PT Pertamina's refinery in Cilacap, a Pertamina spokesman, Kurdi Susanto, said over his cellular phone.

"As I said earlier, Cilacap police are intensifying security at all vital objects in the area in the runup to Amrozi at al's execution," Susanto said, adding the same was happening at the Holcin cement plant and the Cilacap thermal power plant (PLTU).

Cilacap police also said recently they were ready to protect the area when the execution was carried out.

"We are ready to ensure security in Cilacap when the execution of Amrozi at al is carried out," Cilacap Police chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Teguh Pristiwanto said recently.

Meanwhile, Vice President Jusuf Kalla said recently the
execution was a matter of choosing the right time.

"Executions are always carried out through long considerations and at the right time. It does not mean that the government hesitates to carry out the death penalty," the vice president said in Jakarta last Friday.
