DEMOCRAT PARTY SUPPORTS REDUCTION OF FUEL PRICES

Jakarta, Oct 28 (ANTARA) - Democrat Party executive Anas Urbaningrum said here on Tuesday that the party supported government efforts to study possible reduction of oil fuel prices.

Various quarters including the House of Representatives have urged the government to immediately lower the oil fuel prices following the drop in the world price of crude.

Anas however said that the government had to be careful in taking steps. "We hope the government in taking the decision would also consider state income and expenditures including for fuel subsidy," he said.

He said the consideration was important with regard to safeguarding the national economy and the people's economy from the impact of the current global crisis.

He said he did not agree if the government's decision to lower the fuel prices was based only upon the pressures.

"To us, national economy and the people's economy must be the main factors for consideration in seeking options for possible reduction of fuel prices. The decision must not be made upon pressures," he said.
