Qatar's Al Attiyah Quits Dakar Rally Over Mechanical Troubles
Cordoba, Argentina, January 15 (QNA) -Qatar's Nasser Al Attiyah, who so far stood second in the car standings, quit the Dakar rally Tuesday over mechanical trouble in his Buggy.
"I have to announce that we are unfortunately withdrawing," Al Attiyah's navigator Lucas Cruz said in his Twitter account.
Al Attiyah, who won the Dakar rally in 2011 and had so far won three stages this year, crashed into a tree Monday during the ninth stage in Argentina to relinquish his chances of winning the current edition of the prestigious off-road race. Further, however, he was not able to fix his Buggy.
French motorcyclist David Casteu also quit the rally, after crashing into a cow Monday. The accident cost Casteu his lead in the standings, as well as a hard blow to the shoulder.(QNA)
