Deputy PM Opens Workshop
Doha, January 10 (QNA) - HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmad bin Abdullah Al-Mahmoud on Thursday opened the workshop held in Doha for Sudan's Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and run by the Mediation Support Team of the United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).
The delegation of the Sudanese group, which is currently engaged in peace talks with the Sudanese government, is headed by its deputy Arko Suleiman Dahia, with Acting Head of UNAMID Aichatou Mindaoudou Souleymane attending the workshop.
HE Ahmad bin Abdullah Al-Mahmoud underlined the significance of the workshop in which U.N. and African Union experts participate, especially as it precedes the start of negotiations between the Sudanese government and JEM, which are set to take place in Doha over the coming few days in order to reach a peace agreement.
The four-day workshop aims to build the capacity of JEM delegation and explain the provisions of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur, which received the blessing and support of the Darfur people as well as the international community and regional and international organizations.
A round of talks took place in Doha from October 17 to 22 between delegations from the Sudanese government and JEM. The two parties signed a document spelling out their commitment to the peace process, immediate cessation of all hostilities, and the return to negotiations in order to achieve a comprehensive settlement based on the Doha Agreement.
