Italian Cultural Center to be set up in Yemen

SANA'A, Oct 27 (Saba) - Minister of Culture Abu Bakr al-Muflahi has
discussed with the Italian ambassador to Sana'a Mario Boffo the plan
to establish an Italian cultural council in the country.

Al-Muflahi said the ministry is ready to allocate a building for
the center after the Italian government had agreed to allocate a
building for a Yemeni cultural council in Rome.

The meeting also discussed the mechanism for a project aimed at
restoring and preserving Quranic parchments and Yemeni manuscripts
which would be implemented with the collaboration of the Italian
government early next year.

The first phase of the project will begin with the restoration of
important parchments and manuscripts by a Yemeni well-trained team.

The team, that composes of ten members, was sent to Italy to learn
new methods to restore manuscripts in an effort to preserve the
country cultural heritage.
