ENVOY: INDIA POTENTIAL MARKET FOR INDONESIA

Denpasar, Oct 28 (ANTARA) - India is a country with potential market for Indonesia in the field of trade, investment, and tourism but Indonesia has yet to be able to work on it optimally.

Indonesian Ambassador to India Andi M Ghalib said in Kuta resort on Monday that India's economic growth was significantly high at seven to eight percent, or at the second level after China.

"India is one of the largest countries in Asia and it's potential market, but Indonesia has yet to make use of it optimally," Andi Ghalib said on the sidelines of Indonesia-India Business Forum on "The Efforts to Increase Promotion of Investment, Trade, and Tourism Between Indonesia and India."
He said the Indonesian government and business makers should pro-actively cooperate in various business sectors with India, a country with 1.2 billion people.

"New affluent people keep emerging in India. Around 300 million of its total population are rich and therefore they always make business trips to other foreign countries," he said.

Andi Ghalib said that every year 7.5 million Indian tourists make overseas trips to Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

"But only 30,000 or around 0.1 percent of Indian tourists visit Indonesia per year," Andi said, adding that it was time for Indonesia to intensify bilateral cooperation with India in the fields of business, investment, and tourism.
