Qatar Olympic Committee to Inaugurate Sports Facilities Project Tuesday

Doha, December 31 (QNA) - The Qatari Olympic Committee will inaugurate tomorrow (Tuesday) the first project of Al Furjan Sports Facilities located in Al Wukair. The project extends over 10000 meters of land. The project consists of a football pitch, volleyball court, basketball court, a hand ball court and a 350 meter walking track, in addition to a mosque, a changing room, a cafeteria and a play room for children. The project's design is environmentally friendly in terms of power consumption. The project was completed in 10 months only. Work on the project first started in February in tandem with celebrations of the sports day. The Olympic Committee had announced a comprehensive plan to develop Al Furjan sports facilities. The plan includes establishing three courts a year over the next five years. The courts will be established in cities across the country. The committee had already studied the sporting facility needs of all cities and areas in the State of Qatar. The football pitch will be 2400 square meters with artificial grass, the handball court is 800 square meters and the basketball court is 392 square meters. All the sports facilities will have a lighting system. The Furjan sports facilities serve the strategic goals in the sports field as part of Qatar National Strategy 2011-2016, which in turn aims to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030. (QNA)
