REALIZATION OF FUEL OIL SUBSIDY EXCEEDS QUOTA: MINISTER
Jakarta, Oct 27 (ANTARA) - The government said on Monday that the realization of fuel oil (BBM) and LPG subsidies up to October 24 had reached Rp130.9 trillion, exceeding the Rp126.82 trillion allocated in the 2008 revised budget.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro told a hearing with the House of Representatives (PR)'s Commission VII which deals with energy affairs that the realization of fuel oil subsidy from January 1 to October 24, 2008 had reached Rp130.9 trillion.
"The use of subsidized fuel oil has exceeded the quota," he said.
Based on the 2008 revised budget, subsidies for premium gasoline was at Rp44.7 trillion, for kerosene at Rp38.69 trillion, for diesel oil at Rp33.67 trillion and for LPG at Rp9.72 trillion.
But the realization until October 24 has reached Rp42.61 for premium gasoline, Rp43.90 trillion for kerosene, Rp41.79 trillion for diesel oil and Rp3.21 for LPG.
Yusgiantoro said that the increase in the use of the subsidy was caused by the increase in the use of subsidized premium and diesel oil.
"Since the increase in fuel oil prices, pertamax consumers switched to premium," the minister said.
The use of subsidized diesel oil also increased because there were many cases in which subsidized diesel oil was used by industries illegally, the minister added.
