FORMER JAPANESE PM TO VISIT INDONESIA FOR "INDONESIA-JAPAN EXPO"

Tokyo, Oct. 27 (ANTARA) - Former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda is expected to visit Indonesia to participate in a seminar to be organized as part of "Indonesia-Japan Expo 2008" in Jakarta, from November 1 t0 4.

"We had a meeting with former Prime Minister Fukuda last weekend and on the occasion he expressed his readiness to participate in the seminar in Indonesia," Ronny P Yuliantoro, deputy ambassador of Indonesia to Japan, said here on Monday.

Fukuda was accompanied by Secretary General of the Japan-Indonesia Association (Japinda) Hisayuki Wakui in the meeting, he said.

The event would be very interesting and important for the strengthening bilateral relations of the two countries, Ronny quoted Fukuda as saying.

Indonesia and Japan celebrated the 50th anniversary of both nations' diplomatic ties this year.

Yasue Katsunobu, an official of the Japanese foreign ministry's Asia Pacific Bureau, also confirmed that the ministry had received an invitation from the Indonesia-Japan Friendship Association (PPIJ) to take part in the seminar.

"Mr. Fukuda will go to Jakarta to be a keynote speaker at the seminar," Katsunobu said.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will officially kick off the Indonesia-Japan Expo 2008. Ginandajr Kartasasmita is chairman of the event's organizing committee.
