OIC Chief urges support to flood victims in Yemen

Jeddah, October 26, SPA -- The Secretary General of the Organization
of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu,
extended his sincere sympathy to the government and people of Yemen
following the devastating floods caused by torrential rains, causing
a grave humanitarian crisis in the governorates of Hadramout and
Mahra.

In an OIC press release issued here yesterday, Ihsanoglu pointed to
the heavy death toll and the massive destruction that hit the
infrastructure, such as roads, power and water distribution networks,
describing the situation as a national disaster.

He urged the international community to provide aid and assistance
to the victims.

The Secretary General expressed the OIC's full solidarity with the
people of Yemen in this difficult time.

He also addressed an urgent appeal to the OIC member states, donors,
and philanthropists, humanitarian and financial institutions across
the Muslim world to provide all possible assistance to alleviate the
suffering of those affected by the disaster.

Likewise, he entrusted the OIC Department of Humanitarian Affairs to
undertake an urgent relief campaign to assist the distressed people
in Yemen.
