COMCEC concludes 24th session in Istanbul 3 Istanbul

During the session, delegations examined the important issues on the
economic agenda of the OIC, which are vital to further strengthening
the economic and commercial cooperation among the member States.


COMCEC also considered such matters as soaring oil and food prices,
current global financial crisis and their ramifications for the
economies of the member states. Delegates discussed possible
solutions to these issues and concurred on a number of key decisions.



At the conclusion of the session, a signing ceremony took place in
which the State of Qatar, the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of
Morocco signed the Protocol on the Preferential Tariff Scheme
(PRETAS).


Moreover, Morocco, Oman and Syria also signed the Rules of Origin of
the TPS-OIC, encouraging thus other Member States, which are not yet
signatories of the Protocol and Rules of Origin, to join as soon as
possible. The session also adopted Resolutions 1 and 2 and the
corresponding report on matters related to economic assistance to
some countries.
