ECO opens meeting on statistics

The first meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization on
statistics opened in Tehran on Sunday. Experts of statistics from the
ECO member states are taking part in the three-day meeting.
The head of Iran's Statistics Center said that the meeting aims to
upgrade know-how about statistics in the ECO member states.

Mohammad Madad added that the experts are planning to create a website
to provide the member states with expertise about statistics by using
the Informational Technology.

Madad hoped that the meeting will expand the cooperation between the
National Statistical Offices of the ECO member states as well as
regional countries.

He said that the first meeting of the heads of the National
Statistical Offices of the ECO member states was held in January,
2008, in Tehran that paved the way for strengthening cooperation on
the domain.

The agenda of that meeting is to set an Action Plan for statistical
cooperation, Madad said.
