MINISTER: CLASH OF INTEREST BETWEEN BUSINESSMEN AND WORKERS NEVER PRODUCES SOLUTION
Jakarta, Oct 26 (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said a clash of interest between businessmen and the workers under the present condition will never provide any solution to the two parties.
"If the two parties are trapped in unfavourable condition, a solution will only be a dream," the minister said after the handing over of some doorprizes to the winners participating in relaxed walking activity held to commemorate the 62nd Finance Day here on Sunday.
According to him, the government would continue to conduct their function amid different interests of the two parties by bridging the workers and businessmen.
"We certainly understand much about the interest of the workers that should be attempted to enable them to achieve their goal, but the objective condition of the company amid the present heavy pressure in business should also be taken into account," the minister said in response to a rejection of a joint ministrial decree on wages.
She further stressed that the government will be ready to respond the policy in the sense whether consultation, intervention, tax and tariff lowering and subsidy program will help the survival of businesses and safeguard the workers' interest.
The workers and entreprises especially their owners and the government had to see the crucial challenges that should be jointly solved.
"If it remains in the spirit of winning or making another party lose, such an agreement will never be reached in facing the current heavier challenges," she said.
According to the minister, the spirit of togetherness must be above all under a rapid changing condition, as marked with drastic change of prices of commodities and banking credit consolidation.
It will also add more pressures to the entreprises. Businessmen are certainly expected to continuously communicate with their workers in the sense that the current condition should be jointly handled, she opined.
Sri Mulyani said a joint decree of five ministers will principally provide signs to the workers to get their right protected and to receive their salary on the basis of their productivity by having an idea in their mind that the company should also be kept to survive.
