TWENTY-FIVE FOREIGN CONSULS GENERAL VISIT YOGYAKARTA

Yogyakarta, Oct 25 (ANTARA) - A group of consuls general from 25 countries visited Yogyakarta Vice Governor Paku Alam IX here on Saturday.

They visited Yogyakarta to see for themselves the real situation in the province in particular and Indonesia in general,
the group's chief Handriyo Kusumo Putro said.

"They want to meet Yogyakarta province's rank and file. In addition to introducing themselves they also want to forge relations with the province and know more about the real situation in the province," he said.

While in Yogyakarta, the consuls general would visit a number of tourist attractions, such as the Yogyakarta palace, Hindu Prambanan Temple and Buddhist Borobudur Temple, he said.

They would also visit a number of small= and medium-scale businesses in the province, he said.

The consuls general come among others from Portugal, Uruguay, Armenia, Brazil, Iceland, New Zealand, Australia, India, Guyana, Pakistan, Turkey, Nepal, Spain, Paraguay, Equador, and the Netherlands.

In his welcoming address, Paku Alam IX said compared to other provinces in Indonesia, Yogyakarta's territory was relatively small because it only consisted of four districts and one municipality.

Although its territory covered only 3,185 sq km, the province had special uniqueness and many institutes of higher learning so that it was known as an education city, he said.

Yogyakarta was also known as a tourist and cultural city, he added.

"In addition, Yogyakarta is also dubbed as mini Indonesia because it has many students hailing from all parts of the country," he said.
